I Watch The Mission: Impossible Franchise So You Don’t Have To: Mission: Impossible 2

It’s Saturday and you know what that means! More movie watching! By the title you already know what we’re watching so, without further ado, here is the cringy cinematography of Mission: Impossible 2.

Mission: Impossible II (2000) - IMDb
Mission: Impossible 2, 2000

The movie begins with this scientist named Dr. Nekhorvich who sends a message to the IMF for Ethan Hunt, a.k.a. Tom Cruise. He tells Ethan that his boss at the Pharmaceutical company Biocyte, is making a virus so he can profit from the cure. I’m not going to say what I’m thinking, but if you’re thinking what I’m thinking we should be friends hehe. He arranges to meet with Ethan in order to give him the virus and the cure. Of course, Ethan is on vacation so they send another guy named Sean to disguise himself as Ethan and get the virus and the cure on a plane. Well…Sean goes rogue and decides to kill Nekhorvich and everyone on the plane and steals the virus and the cure.

With Ethan still on vacation, the IMF still manage to find him and they send him on a mission to recruit Sean’s ex-girlfriend, Nyah and get the virus and the cure back. So we’re in Spain and Ethan meets Nyah and they meet for like a day and they’re already in love. I guess you could say they’re a couple now so yeah. That’s where we are at. So the plan is to have Nyah “get back with Sean” and spy on him. Of course, she’s going to have a tracker on her so Ethan and his crew, that’s right we got Luther back know where she is at all times.

So now we are back in Australia, where Biocyte is located and Sean is staying how convenient. As Ethan stakes out Biocyte, Nyah rekindles her relationship with Sean, even though one of Sean’s men has suspicions, and gives Ethan all and any information she can about what is going on. Now we’re at the Race Track and Sean meets with the CEO of Biocyte, John McCloy and shows him a video of the virus infecting Nekhorvich’s colleagues before blackmailing him into cooperating with him. Basically this virus kills you after 20 hours. This is important in the movie, you’ll see why in a bit. The cure can only save the victim within the 20 hour window. We know that because Nyah stole the SD card from Sean. When she returned it though, she put it in the wrong pocket of his jacket and now he knows that she’s not really in love with him.

Later on, Ethan’s team kidnaps McCloy and forces him to give up the cure, however the only samples of the cure were taken by Nekhorvich and now Sean has them. So in short, Sean has the cure, but not the virus. So, once McCloy is back safe and sound, Ethan and his crew break into Biocyte to destroy the virus. However, Sean tricks Nyah into revealing the plan because he disguised himself as Ethan, and Sean and his crew, along with Nyah, go to Biocyte to stop Ethan.

Now Ethan is very close to destroying the virus, he has one vial left to destroy, and, for some reason he stops to realize that Nekhorvich injected himself with it to smuggle it onto the plane. THIS is what causes him to not be able to destroy the virus because Sean and his crew pull up and there’s a whole shooting fight. Until they realize they should probably stop shooting or else they’re going to release the virus.

Sean makes Nyah get the virus, but Nyah ain’t no bish, so she injects herself with the virus. I didn’t say she wasn’t stupid. Ethan is so upset that he tells Nyah to stay alive because he is going to get the cure to save her and he leaves.

So here’s the funny part, Sean releases Nyah to wander the streets of Sydney intending to start a pandemic. BUT his plan literally could’ve never worked out anyway, because she was walking to the edge of a cliff because she was going to kill herself. It’s not funny that she was going to kill herself, it’s funny that he didn’t think about that. If she died, the virus would have never spread and this whole movie, and his plan, would have been for nothing. To be honest, I would have liked to see his face if that storyline happened. Luckily it didn’t, for Nyah’s sake, so here’s what actually happened.

Sean offers to sell the cure to McCloy in exchange for stock options to make him Biocyte’s majority shareholder. He plans to get rich from Biocyte’s stock due to demand for the cure after the virus is released. Ethan infiltrates the meeting and steals the remaining samples of the cure. While Ethan kills Sean’s men, Luther and Billy, a member of Ethan’s crew, locate Nyah, who, like I said before, is walking to a cliffside to kill herself. Sean chases Ethan to a beach, where Ethan beats him, duh, and with little time left on the 20 hour countdown, Luther reaches Ethan at the beach. As Ethan is about to give Luther the cure, Sean recovers and points a gun at Ethan. Ethan throws the canister containing the cure to Luther and manages to dodge Sean’s shot and shoots Sean instead and finally Sean is killed. Luther injects Nyah with the cure and she is saved!

Ethan can now start his REAL vacation with Nyah in Sydney. The end. In my opinion I did like the story of this movie, the first one was good, but I might have liked this one a little better. Everything was shot in slow motion for the most part, which was a little cringey and there were weird scenes where Nyah and Ethan would like stare at each other, it was a lot. Very 2000s if you ask me haha. All in all, I would watch this again if I had to. The lesson I learned from this film: don’t create a virus just to profit off the cure ;).

I Watch The Mission: Impossible Franchise So You Don’t Have To: Mission: Impossible

Happy New Year everyone! To celebrate the new year Andrew and I watched a new movie franchise. If you couldn’t tell by the title, we watched Mission: Impossible. While Andrew has seen some of these movies, we both have never seen the first one. So, without further ado, here is what happens in Mission: Impossible.

Amazon.com: Mission: Impossible (Special Collector's Edition) : Tom Cruise, Jon Voight, Emmanuelle Béart, Henry Czerny, Jean Reno, Ving Rhames, Kristin Scott Thomas, Vanessa Redgrave, Ingeborga Dapkunaite, Valentina Yakunina, Marek Vasut, Nathan Osgood,
Mission: Impossible, 1996

So it starts with this leader guy named Jim on a plane. This flight attendant comes and asks him if he wants to watch a movie and he says no, but she gives him a tape anyway to listen to. So, Jim listens to this tape that gives him a secret mission to head to Prague to recover the CIA NOC list, which is like the list of all of the European agents. So Jim accepts the mission and we meet our team. No specific actor is really important other than the main one who is Tom Cruise.

They all come up with a plan to get this NOC list from this guy who stole it. After devising this whole plan, it ends up failing and pretty much everyone on this team die EXCEPT for Tom Cruise, because well, it’s Tom Cruise. Ethan, Tom Cruise, meets another agent, the leader of the IMF, that wasn’t on his team, at this restaurant only to find out that the whole mission was a setup because they believe there is someone in the IMF who is a mole. Since Ethan was the only one who survived, they think he is the mole, that’s good process of elimination I guess. After Ethan escapes, because he’s not the mole, he tries to figure out how to get his name clean.

He goes into the safe house that they were supposed to meet at and starts looking up a Job 3:14, which he laters finds out is a Bible verse. He then emails someone named Max, because that’s who has been making deals with Job. Max was going to buy the NOC list off of Job. Then all of sudden, Clair, Jim’s wife and a member of the team, shows up and decides to help Ethan. Cause somehow she didn’t die.

So Ethan meets Max, who we find out is a girl and he makes a deal with her to get the full NOC list and give it to her in exchange to meet Job, the real mole, and $10 million. She accepts and he comes up with his own small team to break into the CIA and get the list. This is probably the most iconic scene in the movie. So here is the new team: We got Luther who is a hacker and Franz, a helicopter pilot. Watch the scene below to understand how stressful it was for them.

Mission: Impossible, 1996

After they do that, they manage to escape with the FULL NOC list. How does this even happen, this is the CIA and they STILL managed to get broken into. smh. Now, they have to meet with Max. But before that we find out that JIM IS ALIVE. Remember how I said everyone died on his team? Yeah well, that included Jim. So Jim and Ethan go out for like dinner or something and Jim tries to convince Ethan that the agent in the beginning of the film, who is also the leader of the IMF, is Job, HOWEVER, Ethan isn’t a moron, so he figures out that it was Jim all along that was the mole and he killed everyone.

So, now we are on the train, but the IMF agent who accused Ethan of being the mole is also on the train and Ethan’s team is on the train, along with Max. But Ethan’s team is trying to mess with the internet connection because they don’t actually want Max to release the full NOC list, I mean really, Ethan isn’t just going to turn into a bad guy. So, Clair goes to the back of the train and starts talking to Jim about THEIR plan, because I guess they were working together the whole time stupid husband and wife bs. Anyway, it turns out Ethan was in disguise as Jim, his specialty, and basically caught Clair in the act. But then, the actual Jim comes and he wants the $10 million and gets it. But then he was going to kill Ethan, but Ethan defended himself and this mf KILLS HIS WIFE ON ACCIDENT. I mean…….good.

Then Ethan puts on these glasses that have a camera on them, and revealed to the IMF that Jim was still alive. Jim escapes though and now there is this whole fight scene on the train. Watch the video. I would love to describe it to you in words, but a video is worth a million words.

Mission: Impossible, 1996

If you DIDN’T watch the video, we find out that Franz was on Jim’s side the entire time and even helped kill a couple of Ethan’s teammates. But now that Jim and Franz are ACTUALLY dead, Ethan’s name is clean and Luther becomes an IMF agent AND the NOC list was returned to the CIA. The movie ends with Ethan on a plane and a flight attendant asking him if he wants to watch a movie, he says no and she gives him one anyway. *Mission: Impossible Theme*.

In the end, this movie was really interesting. It was a lot of fun trying to figure out who the mole was and each action scene wasn’t boring to watch. If you haven’t seen this movie, I would give it a go. Even though you came here to not have to watch the movie, sometimes reading about it just doesn’t it justice. The lesson I learned from this movie: Don’t trust people, especially the wife of your “dead” leader and some random helicopter pilot.
